Books That Won’t Eff You Up: Ten Girls to Watch
Riding off the hit wave from Lena Dunham’s HBO series Girls, 20-somethings are soaking in the limelight. Written by Charity Shumway this novel goes through it all, friendships, relationships (the good, the bad, and the ugly), and the ever troubling– job search. Dawn West is a Midwestern girl trying to make it in the Big Apple. She’s stuck in an on/off relationship with her college boyfriend until he calls it off for good. The character is so relatable and the story line is so honest and riveting you can’t help but be inspired. Not just by the story itself but the stories of Charm Magazine’s “Ten Girls to Watch”
4 things to learn from 10 Girls to Watch:
1. You might like being with him, but do you like who you are with him? Dawn has several tricky relationships to deal with throughout the book, especially with her on/off boyfriend. But she learns something from each one. Even the tricky lesson of knowing when to walk away.
2.Never give up; you never know what’s around the corner. Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.
3. Didn’t find yourself during college? No biggie, post-college works too. These stories are of real women who’ve grown into careers, and families, and other places they couldn’t have imagined during college. It’s great insight for girls in college and post who are struggling with where their future is headed.
4.Being in your 20s means you’re not alone…with anything! 20-somethings are having their moment: From HBO Girls to blogs that specialize in dealing with collegiate/post collegiate issues. (cough cough College Crush). The fun and confusion of a female in her twenties is the new glamour story all over.
