Seventeen’s Pretty Amazing Contest!

Hey you…yes, you! Are you doing something amazing with your life? People should know about it!

Seventeen Magazine’s 2nd annual “Pretty Amazing” contest, one lucky teen who is inspirational, creative, talented and has an amazing story to tell, will be judged by a panel – including Roberts—to win a trip to New York Citya $20,000 scholarship, from Neutrogena, and the coveted cover of Seventeen Magazine’s October 2012 issue. Girls nationwide can enter the contest NOW by sharing their story and submitting a photo at seventeen.com/prettyamazing. The deadline for the contest is April 30.

We chatted with fashion designer Zoe Damacela, last year’s winner about her Pretty Amazing Experience.  You probably recognize Zoe from her gorgeous Seventeen cover last year but before that she was just like any girl. Since winning the contest she has been recognized all over. (She’s met Obama…that is awesome!) Now a sophomore at Northwestern University she is running her own business, studying in school, and enjoying college. She had dream and she went for it. Now she wants you to go for yours.  Zoe chatted with us about her fashion inspirations, her great experience with Seventeen, and we even sneaked in a little chat about love and dating advice.

CC: How was the entire Seventeen Magazine experience?

ZD: It was amazing. The best thing about is what that it was so much fun. Since I had always been working really hard and I never really gave myself that much time to be a teenager and relax it was really nice to have that week where I got to have makeovers and go bowling and do a bunch of fun stuff. Another thing that was great about it was meeting the 4 other finalists, these girls who were just as determined and successful as I am. I really bonded with all of them. The contest really brought us altogether.

CC: Where do you get your fashion inspiration?

ZD: Art, Music, Movies, and Books…a lot of books. A lot of my ideas and themes I get from books or characters from books. It really comes from a lot of things.

CC: What is the best dating advice you’ve received?

ZD: People say this all the time but I don’t think girls listen to it. Really be yourself. Sometimes when a girl goes out on a date with a guy she tries to impress the guy or act differently that she usually would and I think that kind of backfires because maybe the guy really like how you are on the date but if that’s not how you really are then eventually they’re going to find out. If your really just act yourself the guy you find will fall in love with who you are as a person. I think that’s one of the reasons why my relationship has lasted so long.

CC: Number One Celebrity Crush?

ZD: Conor Oberst, the lead singer of Bright Eyes.

CC: What advice do you have for girls who are thinking about applying to the “Pretty Amazing” contest?

ZD: Really be positive. I think sometimes it’s hard for us girls to talk about our accomplishments because as girls we’re taught to be humble and not sound conceited. What ends up happening is we end up undervaluing our accomplishments. Every girl has something special and unique about her. Something that is really important about the [Pretty Amazing] contest is to be proud of your accomplishments. If you have done something amazing you should let everybody know!

Don’t miss your chance to show the world that you’re PRETTY AMAZING! Send in your submission by April 30th!
